TV or Not TV

People don't watch a whole lot of tv these days but what they do watch is a lot of tv shows, movies, sports, and just for kicks well include youtube as well; since a good amount of people watch a couple hours of youtube a day. By the way, I have done all of these things. In high school I would watch about 2hrs of youtube a day. During college, I would spend a lot of time watching Game of Thrones. And throughout the first half of this quarantine, I also spent a lot of my time watching movies. So, what is todays article even about??? Well, today I want to discuss why we need to let go of the tv shows, the movies, the sports games and the long hours of youtube videos. The reason I say "need to," is because we need to. In this article I will go over 1 big reason I have stopped watching tv shows, movies, sports games, and hours of youtube videos.
These platforms and activities steal large quantities of time from our lives. On average, an American household watches about 7hrs and 50 minuets of tv/youtube a day. This is an insane number especially since the average household in America is 2.6 people per household. That means that the average person in America watches around 3hrs of tv a day. That's 180 minutes a day. That's 1,260 minutes a week. Thats 5,400 minutes a month/90hrs a month. That's 64,800 minutes a year/1,080hrs a year. Just doing these calculations blows my mind. These are insane numbers. To make this more interesting let's say you worked those 1,080hrs. That would be an extra $16,200 of income a year if you were paid $15/hr. I mean these numbers are crazy!!! Let's make this even crazier!!! If you worked those hours instead of watching all that tv for 10 years, you would have an extra $162,000 in your bank account!
Okay so now that those numbers and this message are more real to us, I can elaborate on why this point is so important. Besides the fact that tv steal thousands of dollars from you($162,000/10yrs), it's also stealing time from your family time, your self-improvement time, your volunteer time, and the list goes on. Look, in order to have a life you can be proud of, you must dedicate time to the 8 areas of life. These include spirit, mental/physical health, family, team, mankind, animal/plant life, physical universe, and your dreams. If you don't make time for these 8 areas, then you will never create a great life for yourself. This is why I created the Great Life Necklace. The idea was not to make a good looking necklace, you can go to Tiffany's for that. The idea was for the necklace to remind you of your responsibilities. Imagine how much more beautiful your life would be if you dedicated an extra 135hrs a year to each of those 8 areas, instead of spending all 1,080hrs on television. It's crazy! Your life would be 1,080X better! By the way, when I do decided to cut a piece of my day out for a movie there are some filters this movie has to make it through(I'll do another article on this in the future). But for now, just know that when I do watch a movie, I'm there to get something, and it's not entertainment!
Remember, there is much to do in life especially if your focus is on creating a great life. You should never have time for tv, you should always be busy with life, your life, your spirit, your mental/physical health, your family, your team, mankind, animal/plant life, the physical universe, and your dreams!
